#27 Aaron LaFountaine up to bat

The Riverside Community College Tigers were upset in a 12-7 loss to the Santa Ana Dons at Saturday's game at the Evans Sports Complex at the Riverside campus. The game was an Orange Empire Conference game, bringing their record to 8-10.

Santa Ana took an early lead in the first inning by 4 runs, though Riverside answered with 2 runs as well. By the end of the 3rd inning, the score was 5-2 with Santa Ana in the lead. The Tigers came up with 5 runs in the 5th inning, however and took the lead 7-5.

#4 Landon McMath made it to first base, and was then pushed to second base by #27 Aaron Lafountaine. #6 Christopher Haas was then up to bat and hit the ball down the middle while he made a run for first. Then #3 Michael Castello drove the ball and the Santa Ana Dons weren't able to get to the ball quickly, sending Castello to second base while McMath and Haas landed the pair of scores. #26 Wynton Bernard drove the ball and allowed for Castello to score the third run in the 5th inning.

Next up to bat was #19 Frankie Torres, who ended up hitting a low ball that struck the Santa Ana pitcher's foot, though allowing for Bernard to score the fourth run for the Tigers in the 5th inning, and finally #23 Edwin Mendoza's hit drove Torres in for the last run of the fifth inning bringing their score to 7-5 over Santa Ana.

In the 6th inning, Santa Ana replied quickly with a three-run homerun and took the lead once again. The score remained at 8-7, with few hits by the Riverside Tigers in the following innings.

In the 9th inning, with #22 Travis Tomsen pitching, their #44 hit a home run right off the bat, making the score 9-7. After another run and no outs, our Tigers were able to get the first out on first base. The second out was caught in the outfield by #3 Michael Castello but another run was made, followed by two more scores in the ninth inning, driving the score to 12-7.

Our 9th inning was short-lived, with #26 Wynton Bernard out after a sprint to first base, followed by #12 Curtis Cassise who hit a high ball and was out upon the catch. #19 Frankie Torres ran to first, but with two outs, #11 Brandon Day got the third and final out leaving the score at 12-7 for the win for the Santa Ana Dons.

Our Riverside Tigers continue to play Orange Empire Conference games facing Santa Ana once more on Tuesday at Santa Ana and Fullerton both on Thursday and Friday.
