RCC EMT student trainees demonstrate emergency lifesaving procedures on one of their test dummies.

Riverside City College president Monte Perez and the Dean of Student Services organized an outdoor event to educate first-time, returning, and continuing students about numerous academic services and clubs. Many students connected with several representatives from different associations, universities, training, and educational programs.

Students witnessed a demonstration given by paramedics on how to revive a person. About nine EMT officials helped plug in IV's, maintain a stable blood pressure, and insert a breathing tube into a training dummy. They also offered training programs and free brochures.

An opportunity to receive a $500 scholarship kept many students on the edge of their seats. At the end of the program, two raffle tickets were drawn and students Marie Horner and Ronnie Washington joyfully received their certificates and left with smiles on their faces.

Student President Marilynn Zaragoza delivered a positive and motivating speech about academic success and everyday values. After being home schooled for five years, Marilynn applied to UCR, but was sadly rejected because she didn't complete two years of a foreign language. She figured since RCC Moreno Valley was close to home, she would attend and strive for excellence.  Being the first in her family to attend college, Marilynn has hopes of attending Chapman University and becoming a Political Science major. "If you set your mind to it, you can accomplish it." Marilynn said.

"Our perception is in our reality," Assistant Professor and Counselor, Sal Soto quoted as he spoke to parents, students, and staff of RCC. Soto thanked many of our event sponsors, such as Altura Credit Union, Pepsi Cola, Census, Associated Students of Moreno Valley Campus (ASMVC), and Title IV. He also introduced many honorary board members, such as Academic President Dr. Gibbs and Dr. Burnett. Assembly man Anthony Portatino pledged to increase Bachelor Degrees to 50 percent. Vice President Janet Green wished us a successful academic year. Chancellor Gregory Gray mentioned how proud he was of the student and staff of the RCC Moreno Valley Campus.
