As for the news on their latest run, Riverside Men's Cross Country Team competed in the Golden West. Invitational and the Orange Empire Conference Preview Meet in Huntington Beach, Calfornia on September 25th, 2009. Riverside beat other competitors in the race but came in second overall. Don't let the loss by one team get you down, they were the first to win among the Conference Teams.

The guys were competing against five programs which were ranked above them in the most regional cross country rankings. Getting second place against that tough competition is a very good run.

The total meet featured 22 teams and almost 200 runners. The total points Riverside finished with were 72 points, 37 points behind traditional power Glendale. The good news is they got 10 points better than El Camino, 80 points better than Fullerton, and an amazing 81 points better than Mt. San Antonio.

Impressively, all five of Riverside's scoring runners finished in the top 25.

Their Coach Jim Carron said he "was very pleased with the results of the race." He will work with the guys to have them train and get ready for their goal which is to place in the top 3 at state.

The team results and top runners were Jeff Pelarde who is 5-11, 150 pounds, sophomore and led the Tigers to a fourth place finish (20:24). Jeff was followed by Daniel Cooper who is 6-2 , 165 lbs, sophomore that scored  thirteenth (21:06), Jeff Blakely who is 6-1, 150 pounds, freshman that scored seventeenth (21:14), Jesse Dorado who is 5-8, 130 lbs, freshman that scored twentieth (21:24) and Charlie Alvarez who is 5-9, 140 pounds, freshman and scored twenty-fifth (21:33).

Their first game in November will be on the 7th at 10:00 a.m. against Mt. San Antonio at the Southern California Championship in Walnut, Ca.
