When students enroll to Riverside Community College, regardless if they're first time students or returning students, part of the fees they pay goes to Associated Students of RCC. ASRCC gets a portion of the student's money and is supposed to use that money for student activities such as events, trips, or even just a simple barbeque.
Last week on Wednesday October 14, 2009, students expected a free barbeque at the Moreno Valley campus that was supposed to take place in quad area from 5 to 7p.m. When students approached the quad, it was clear to see that there was no barbeque, no ASRCC staff, and no signs posted to alert students to the cancellation.
Some students attend the college here at the Moreno Valley campus for up to eight hours a day. For these students who do this, they need to eat during their breaks betwewen classes and ASRCC's cancellation of their planned barbeque upset alot of students. What happens to that money now? Does it transfer to the next event?
Tracey Dennis of ASRCC says, "The barbeque event was cancelled due to the bad weather, but other events such as Breast Cancer Awareness week and Halloween Valley are still on."
We can only hope, Tracey.
A photographer from Valley Vista News was present the evening of the barbeque and stated that the weather was fine.
