Nola Samuels 1. Did you campaign to become a candidate? How?
Yes, but not in the traditional "homecoming" sense. Our campaigning took place primarily in the form of various activities, which we participated in while being scored by a panel of judges.

2. Explain the moment when you won the title Home Coming Queen/King.
The stadium was full and roaring. The lights were blinding white and I couldn't hear a thing except my own breath, and the sound of the announcer mis-pronouncing my last name. (laughs) At first, I didn't understand that him saying my name meant that I won, until I actually felt the crown on my head. When I finally realized what was happening, I was thrilled.

3. Are there any benifits of being king/queen?
Well, in the obvious sense, theres the 400$ scholarship, but other than that and the occasional, "Hey, arent you that girl that won homecoming or somthing?", it's pretty much been business as usual. (laughs)

4.Explain the process of becoming king/queen.
We each sent in an application paper, we showed up for different activities through out the week, and the judges voted based on our performances. That's about it really.

5. How did you encourage/ persuade people to vote for you?
By trying to maintain a positive and enthusiastic persona during each of the activities, while retaining an air of professionalism and sincerity.
6. How confident were you that you were going to win?
Not at all, I could never tell whether the judges were pleased with me or not. They were very good at remaining neutral in their respective dispositions. (laughs)

7. How does it feel to represent the school as Homecoming court?
Its an incredible honor, and I'm so proud to uphold the title.

8. Why do you think you deserved to win?
Not to sound too "Mrs. America", but I think we all had our own reasons why we each would have made great Kings or Queens. I suppose the judges just saw in me what I had been striving to achieve: a cheery disposition and a strong will.

9. What have you learned from your extracurricular activities?
EVERYTHING. I have learned so much about life and people and how to maintain my own sanity through extra curriculars, they've truly been a blessing in my acedemic career and will continue to be for the remainder of its existance.

10. Why do you think you were selected? Has it had any effect on your life?
Like I said before, I dont know what it is the judges liked about me specifically, all I know is that I'm one lucky girl, and I'm incredibly grateful for the honor. As far as the effects it has had on my life, I have gained many new friends in the process of homecoming, which is definetly more important than winning any crown.
